What are fruit flies?
Fruit flies are pests commonly found in homes, restaurants, grocery stores or anywhere where fresh produce is present.
They measure about 1/8 of an inch in length and are tan and black in color with bright red eyes.
Fruit flies feed and lay their eggs in rotting or fermenting fruit.
Are fruit flies dangerous?
Fruit flies are generally considered to be a nuisance pest. They do, however, have the potential to contaminate food with bacteria and other disease-producing organisms.
Why do I have a fruit fly problem?
Fruit flies are present in your home because they are drawn to the ripened fruits and vegetables that are generally found in your kitchen area. Bringing home fruits or vegetables that have had a previous infestation is the most common way that fruit flies enter your house. Adult fruit flies may also enter your home through open doors and windows that are not properly sealed or screened.

Can I do it myself?
The presence of fruit flies is often a sanitation issue. Along with ripe or rotting fruit, fruit flies also breed in drains, garbage disposals, and trash containers. You can help control fruit fly infestations in your home by properly storing fruits and vegetables and by using them in a timely manner. Also, make sure that trash receptacles are clean and that your drains and garbage disposals are unclogged so that standing water doesn’t build up. If you are having difficulty keeping fruit flies out of your home, contact All-American Pest Control.

How can I prevent a fruit fly problem in the future?
Preventing a fruit fly problem can be as simple as eliminating their food and breeding source. If you have fruits and vegetables in the house, make sure that they are eaten promptly or refrigerated. Keep all screens intact and the edges of windows and doors properly sealed so that adult fruit flies cannot enter your home and contaminate your food.
