Stink bugs are a very ugly looking creature in my humble opinion. I kind of don't like these bugs. People are scared of them because they're not a bug that has a pretty color. Stink bugs are that kind of yucky grey-green. That makes people think, "Oh, what is this?" As the name suggests, if you crush them or get them agitated, they can emit a pretty stinky odor.
They're shaped like a shield. Once you see them, you know them because of their shape. It's a new insect to the area. It was brought here from Asia in 1996. They have no known predators, so they get pretty populated.
About this time of year, when the weather starts to change, they're going to look for nice warm places to spend the winter. They're going to come towards the warm sides of the house, usually wherever the sun is hitting.
I like to say that stink bugs ... You'll usually see them on a ceiling or at the top of a wall. That's where I normally see them. You'll catch them, a lot of times, around windows because once they get in, they still want that heat.
They definitely love to overwinter. They'll find nooks and crannies to get in. We find them in attic spaces a lot and chimneys.
