Earth Day 2016 is April 22. What exactly is Earth Day you say? Earth Day is a day that was started on April 22, 1970. On this one day in history, 20 million Americans were active in speaking and doing for the betterment of our environment. This date has been credited as the day that sparked our modern environmental movement. 20 years after its initial day, Earth Day became global. In 1990 over 200 million people in 141 countries went active and thus put environmental issues on the world stage. Over 1 billion people now actively participate in Earth Day activities each year, which makes it the largest civic observance in the world.

This year, ‘Trees for the Earth’, is the theme. The concept is that over the next five years (as Earth Day gets closer to its 50th-year mark) globally 7.8 billion new trees will be planted. Trees impact our earth in many ways; here are a few of the major ones:

  • Trees help combat climate change because they absorb the harmful excess carbon dioxide from our atmosphere and help reduce the “greenhouse effect.”

  • Trees help us breathe clean air by absorbing odors and pollutant gasses and give us back oxygen. In fact, one large tree can supply a days’ worth of oxygen for four people.

  • Trees help communities obtain long-term economic and environmental sustainability and provide food, energy, and income. Trees make our communities more livable; people jog and walk more on streets with trees because they provide shelter from the rain and sun. They are also a habitat for birds and other animals.

You may be wondering why a pest control company would be promoting an environmentally themed day. That’s easy! We care about the environment too! Here at All-American Pest Control, we do all that we can to keep our earth as chemical free as possible. Our pest control team members are all trained in the most up to date procedures in the elimination of pests. This means that we are as environmentally friendly as possible; and whenever we can, we choose a greener option for treatment and prevention. With pest control, the old saying is true; ‘an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.’ Taking steps within your environment to prevent pests from becoming a problem is the most crucial step to keeping a pest free environment. The majority of pest prevention steps have nothing to do with chemicals and have everything to do with cleaning up debris, repairing your home, and maintaining landscaping.

Eco-friendly is our goal, and we do all that we can to achieve that goal. Take, for instance, our complete, effective, and Eco-friendly approach to termite detection, elimination, and prevention - the Sentricon® Termite Colony Elimination System. The Sentricon® system is the ultimate environmentally responsible way to control and eliminate these silent destroyers that we call termites. The bait that is used with the Sentricon® system is so effective and green that is has been recognized as the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award winner for environmental responsibility. Now that is a great achievement for a pest control product!
