We are so proud to introduce you to our 2020 Hometown Hero Award recipient, Susan Landfield. Susan is a nurse and working mom who was nominated by her husband for her selflessness in the way she continually gives of her time and talents to help her neighbors in Old Hickory Village—especially through COVID-19.
“This honor has been such a wonderful surprise,” said Susan. “While I don’t think of myself as a hero, I’m grateful and hope others are inspired to show acts of kindness in their own neighborhoods.”
While there were so many worthy nominations, Susan stood out as a humble unsung hero through the pandemic and beyond.
“Susan embodies what it means to be Hometown Hero,” said All-American Pest Control President Erin Richardson. “Serving as a nurse and being a mom to her 3-year-old son takes a lot of energy, but she has continued to find ways to go above and beyond to bring comfort and peace of mind to others—from making sure those who couldn’t shop for themselves had groceries to arranging porch deliveries of hand sanitizer. She represents so many other working moms and essential workers who are juggling a great deal yet continuing to give. We’re proud to recognize such a deserving Middle Tennessean with this year’s Hometown Hero Award.”
To celebrate Susan, All-American held a social distancing parade through her neighborhood before presenting her with an honorary certificate and 10 years of free pest control—ant, spider, tick and termite protection, mosquito reduction and yard treatment services.
After selecting Susan as a finalist, we learned that she was recently diagnosed with Alpha-Gal Syndrome, a tick-born illness that causes an allergy to meat from hooved animals.
It means so much to us at All-American that we get to help protect Susan and her family from ticks and other pests as she’s made it a priority to serve and protect her family, friends and neighbors.
Thank you to Susan and all of the other great nominees for your dedicated commitment to our community. We enjoyed reading your stories, and we look forward to honoring another Hometown Hero next year.
