We are thrilled to announce that Mary Harris, president and co-founder of the Wilson Country Black History Committee, has been honored with All-American’s fifth annual Hometown Hero Award. This well-deserved recognition is a testament to Mary’s unwavering dedication to her community and her outstanding track record of
selfless service.
Mary’s passion for her hometown of Lebanon shines through in everything she does. She has tirelessly worked toward preserving and promoting the Black history of
Wilson County, inspiring generations to come. As a true embodiment of the award’s spirit, Mary exemplifies the values of servant leadership, remarkable service, and
thoughtful innovation that All-American holds to the heart.
To celebrate her, we orchestrated a surprise award presentation at the historic Pickett Chapel, a significant project spearheaded by Mary herself. Surrounded by
loved ones and esteemed community members, Mary was honored in front of a captivated audience.
A special thank you for Pastor Ryan Bennett at The United Methodist Church for nominating Mary!
“Mary is relentless in her pursuit of serving the community,” said Pastor Ryan Bennett, Mary’s nominator. “She has first-hand experienced some of the worst our
nation offers, yet she remains optimistic and hopeful for the future. Through her tireless work to see the Roy Bailey Museum open to all, she has shown that her
heart beats to serve her community. There is no one more deserving of this recognition, and I am so happy to see Mary recognized for all her work!”
As a token of our appreciation, Mary received a special certificate for 10 years of free pest control services for her home and the chapel. This includes protection
against ants, spiders, ticks and termites as well as mosquito reduction and yard treatment services. It is a small gesture to express our gratitude for Mary’s
incredible contributions to the community.
“We are deeply honored to commemorate Mary this year,” said All-American Pest Control president Erin Richardson. “Her unwavering dedication to the community
and tireless efforts to see her dream through is inspiring! When we announced we were choosing to honor Mary, the community rallied behind us and chose to honor
and support her as well with the Legend of Lebanon distinction and the proclamation naming her an official hometown hero. We truly chose the right
person!”
