The Sentricon Termite Colony Elimination System preserves our nation’s history by protecting many of our most precious national treasures. Caretakers of national andmarks can’t take chances with subterranean termites- a devastating insect that causes more than $5 billion in damage and repair costs each year. Active in every state but Alaska, a termite colony can number in millions, working unseen around the clock.

Caretakers of many historic treasures including Independence Hall, the Alamo, the Statue of Liberty, The White House and our very own President Andrew Jackson’s Home, the Hermitage trust the number 1 brand in termite protection – the Sentricon System. The Sentricon System offers proven colony elimination and less disruption than other termite treatments; and it’s environmentally responsible – using just grams of bait, instead of hundreds of gallons of chemicals. In fact, the Sentricon System is the only termite control product ever to receive the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award presented by the Environmental Protection Agency.

The Alamo

In 2003, caretakers at the Alamo declared war on destructive subterranean termites after discovering termite damage on the Shrine Museum and other buildings on the grounds. Due to the age and historic status of these buildings, Alamo personnel did not want to drill and trench interior and exterior walls for a liquid chemical treatment. The less intrusive solution was the Sentricon System. Just four months after the Sentricon System was installed at the Shrine Museum, the termite colony was eliminated. The Sentricon System continues to act as the Alamo’s termite security system. This gives caretakers peace of mind that visitors will be able to enjoy the Alamo for many years to come.

The White House

Subterranean termites were discovered in the West Wing of the White House in February 1998, when termites swarmed just 30 feet from the Oval Office. The Sentricon system was installed later that year, complete with in ground stations strategically placed around the perimeter of the White House.Above ground stations were used inside the White House where the swarm was discovered. Termite fed on the bait placed inside and outside the White House and termite colony elimination was achieved. The termite infestation was even a part of a story line on NBC’s hit show “The West Wing” in March 2005. The Sentricon Stations will continue to be monitored to ensure that termite problems don’t recur.

The Hermitage

Since 2000, All-American Pest Control protects all 18 buildings on the grounds of President Andrew Jackson’s historic home, The Hermitage. Sentricon continues to locate new termite colony threats to the Hermitage and eliminates the threat before damage is done.

Termites in Nashville, TN are around the clock eating machines. Eat. It’s what termites do. Termites naturally break down plant and wood material – good news in the forest, bad news in your neighborhood. They tunnel from their underground colony through the soil to any source of wood, which they devour from the inside out.

You may not even notice termites at work on your home until it’s too late and structural timbers have been severely damaged. Given time, they can collapse a building entirely. In the meantime, they’re also working away at siding, door and window frames, fences, paper, furniture, cloth and books. Subterranean termites are found in every state expect for Alaska.

Termite damage adds up fast.

Every year in the United States:

More than 5 million homes discover some type of termite problem

About $5 billion in termite-related property damage is incurred

Termite damage is more common than damage caused by storms, fires, and earthquakes

The cost of termite damage is rarely covered by homeowners insurance

The good news is a little prevention goes a long way. For a small investment, you can get rid of termites and the threat of termites in and around your home. The Sentricon Termite Colony Elimination System with Always Active technology is a proven solution to get rid of and prevent new colonies for threatening your home.

As Americans get ready to kick off the summer travel season, it’s important to revisit some bed bug basics to ensure you don’t bring these bugs home with you.

“Bed bugs continue to pose a serious problem in this country. We encourage college students returning home, families going on vacation, business travelers and the public in general to be vigilant for signs of bed bugs wherever they go and take preventative measures to keep from infesting their homes,” said Erin Richardson with All-American Pest Control.

According to a 2011 National Pest Management Association and the University of Kentucky survey of professional pest control companies, bed bugs are the most challenging pest to treat. Additionally, the survey found that 99 percent of pest professionals have encountered bed bug infestations in the past year – a sharp increase from the 25 percent in 2000.

All-American Pest Control offers the following bed bug prevention tips when traveling:

Pull back hotel bed sheets, inspect the mattress seams, box spring, around and behind the headboard, sofas and chairs for telltale brownish or reddish spots, shed skins or bugs.

Avoid putting luggage on the bed or upholstered furniture.

If changing rooms, be sure the new room is not adjacent to the infested room.

Use a large plastic bag to store luggage.

Upon returning home, inspect and vacuum suitcases thoroughly before bringing them into the house.

Wash clothes – whether worn or not – in hot water or have them dry cleaned.

Male and Female Bed Bugs

What do bug bugs look like?
Adult bed bugs are brown, about a quarter of an inch in diameter, and look like a flat apple seed or lentil.

How bad is the bed bug problem in the US?
Bed bugs are everywhere and infestations have been growing steadily over the past decade. According to 2011 research conducted by the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) and the University of Kentucky, 99% of pest control companies report encountering a bed bug infestation in the past year. This represents a sharp increase in prevalence as only a mere 11% of respondents reported receiving bed bug calls more than 10 years ago. One of the most significant findings is that bed bug encounters have become much more common in public places than the previous year, in some instances increasing by 10, 20, or nearly 30%.

Additionally, another survey by NPMA found that one in five Americans has had a bed bug infestation in their home or knows someone who has encountered bed bugs at home or in a hotel.

Why are bed bugs a problem now?

While there is not one clear answer for the resurgences of bed bugs, the majority of pest professionals point to increased travel and movement of people from across town and around the globe, lack of societal awareness and precaution, and changing pest control products and methods.

Where are bed bugs found?

These pests are not limited to any one specific type of environment. Pest control companies have been reporting infestations in both single and multi-family housing, apartments, hotels, hospitals, college dormitories, public transportation, laundry facilities and even movie theaters.

Why are bed bugs hard to eliminate?

Bed bugs should not be equated with filth or sanitation problems – in hotels or in homes, for that matter. They do not discriminate and have been found in five-star hotels and one-star hotels, penthouses and multi-housing developments. Bed bugs are very elusive and transient pests. They are often found in other areas besides the bed. They can live for several months without eating and can withstand a wide range of temperatures from nearly freezing to 122 degrees Fahrenheit.

What can I do to protect myself from a bed bug infestation?

To prevent bed bug infestations, consumers need to be vigilant in assessing their surroundings. When returning home from a trip, dry your clothing on high heat for 30 minutes and check your luggage carefully. If you think you may have a bed bug infestation, call a pest control professional.

Are bed bugs just in beds?

Bed bugs are not just in beds. They can be in chair cushions, sofas, behind electric outlets, cracks and crevices around baseboards, or even behind picture frames. In other words, they can live pretty much anywhere.

How to get rid of bed bugs?

Heat coupled with a dust, liquid residual and aerosol application is a thorough, effective treatment to get rid of bed bugs. Heat can be applied through bringing in additional heat sources to heat entire homes or room and/or through steaming the surface where bed bugs are most likely to be present. Heat is an essential part of the control and elimination process because bed bug eggs are the most resistant to chemical applications and extreme temperatures. Follow-up inspections and services are an important part of the bed bug elimination process as well to ensure that no bed bugs escaped the initial intensive service.

As a homeowner or business owner, you have many options for treating subterranean termites. Unfortunately, they don’t all protect your home equally well. In fact, there is a wide range of effectiveness even among termite bait systems.

All-American Pest Control, Nashville, TN has been an Authorized Operator offering green termite protection for home owners with with Sentricon Termite Colony Elimination System for over 15 years. The most recent upgrade to the Sentricon System is Always Active technology. In short, the Sentricon System with Always Active technology skips the monitoring phase known to the Sentricon System and jumps straight to baiting for existing or potential termite threats.

All-American Pest Control upgraded their nearly 4,000 Sentricon customers to Always Active technology for no additional charge to the homeowner or business. “In 15 years of offering Sentricon in Middle TN, we have success story after success story of how Sentricon has helped homeowners and business owners protect their valuable property. All-American aided in the testing and field studies here in Nashville, TN for Always Active technology. We have seen the technology at work long before other Nashville pest control companies, and we’re thrilled that we’ve now accomplished upgrading every one of our existing customers for no additional charge to them,” said Erin Richardson, Vice-President of All-American Pest Control.

The standard Sentricon System relies on a monitoring then baiting cycle. A technician comes out to your home on a quarterly basis to check all the stations for termite activity. If termites are found, the monitoring device is replaced with bait. The termites feed on the bait, take the bait back to the colony, and the entire colony is eliminated. The Sentricon System with Always Active technology skips the monitoring phases. A higher density, longer lasting bait is in every station at all times. This lessens the amount of time it takes to get termite colony elimination which means better protection for your property. A service technician is only required by the label to visit the property and check the stations one time per year; however, All-American is taking a more conservative approach and visiting every home and business two times per year.

How it works.

As a part of your service contract, All-American will…

1. Inspect your property for signs of termite activity and determine whether or not your home qualifies for a termite damage repair agreement

2. Places Sentricon stations containing Recruit HD termite bait in the soil around your home or business

3. Termite are constantly foraging for new food sources. if they are in and/or around your home, they will run into one of the stations, and the Recruit HD termite bait will be immediately available to collapse the colony.

4. Bait will continue to be available in the Sentricon stations to protect against the next termite colony threat.

The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) is forecasting a heavier tick season than in previous years, but it’s not due…

The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) is forecasting a heavier tick season than in previous years, but it’s not due to the unseasonably mild winter as one might expect. Rather, acorns can be blamed for the predicted surge in tick populations this year.

Oak trees produced an extremely large acorn crop in 2010, which led to a boom in the white-footed mouse population last year. As a result, the blacklegged (deer) tick population also increased because the ticks had an abundance of mice to feed on when they hatched. However, this spring those same ticks will be looking for their second meal as nymphs, but a decline in the mice population may force them to find new warm-blooded host – humans.

All-American Pest Control offers the following tick tips:

Use tick repellent when outdoors and wear long sleeved shirts and pants, preferably light in color, so ticks are easier to detect.

Use preventative medicine on pets, as prescribed by your veterinarian.

Once indoors, inspect clothing and your entire body. Check family members and pets that have been outdoors.

Keep grass cut low, including around fences, sheds, trees, shrubs and swing sets. Remove weeds, woodpiles and other debris from the yard.

If a tick is found attached, remove it with a slow, steady pull so as not to break off the mouth parts and leave them in the skin. Then, wash hands and bite site thoroughly with soap and water. Ticks should be flushed down a toilet or wrapped in tissue before disposing in a closed receptacle.

If you suspect a tick bite, seek medical attention.

Lyme disease, the most common tick-transmitted disease in the world, causes symptoms including fever, headache, arthritis, and fatigue. Rocky Mountain spotted fever causes headache, fever, muscle pain, and rash. Both diseases can be life threatening if not properly treated.
“In the summer months, it is important to check your family and pets for ticks after they spend time outdoors, and take proper steps to control an infestation if you find ticks in your home,” Jim Fredericks, technical services director for NPMA.
If you like to spend time outside in the spring and summer, you may also consider a proactive flea and tick treatment for your yard.

As warmer temperatures continue to set in Nashville, TN and the surrounding areas, the number of termite swarm reports is…

As warmer temperatures continue to set in Nashville, TN and the surrounding areas, the number of termite swarm reports is increasing rapidly. All-American Pest Control has received a record number of homeowner reports for termite swarms this spring. Take preventative measures to protect your greatest investment – your home – from termites.

Termites are known as “silent destroyers” because of their ability to chew through walls, floors and ceilings undetected. They feed 24 hours a day, seven days a week on the cellulose found in wood and paper products. And with upwards of 2 million members in a single termite colony, infestations are more common and more severe than people may think.

Although termites do not pose health threats like mosquitoes or cockroaches, this pest can cause significant damage to a home in a matter of weeks or months. In fact, the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) reports that termites cause more than $5 billion in property damage each year, which is usually not covered by homeowners’ insurance policies.

Regular inspections and routine maintenance are necessary to stay on top of a potential termite infestation. The following steps homeowners can take protect their property from this unwelcome pest:

Repair fascia and soffits and rotted roof shingles. Some termites are drawn to deteriorating wood.

Routinely inspect the foundation of your home for signs of mud tubes (used by termites to reach a food source), cracked or bubbling paint and wood that sounds hollow when tapped.

Direct water away from your house through properly functioning downspouts, gutters and splash blocks.

Maintain a one-inch gap between soil and wood portions of the home.

Store firewood at least 20 feet away from the house and 5 inches off the ground.
